Frequently Asked Questions
Low impact rating eye protectors are suitable in an outdoor environment in sunny, dusty and windy conditions, perfect for domestic duties such as lawn mowing and cleaning. Low impact frames are tested to protect you from flying fragments at a speed of at least 12 metres per second (45km/h).
Medium impact eye protectors are suitable for heavy industrial or extreme sunlight conditions where your eyes are at risk all the time. EYRES medium impact designs are impact tested to protect you from flying fragments travelling at a speed of at least 45 metres per second (150km/h). Medium impact eye protectors are required on all mines, construction and trade sites.
High impact is classified as a face shield and is a device which includes a transparent visor supported in front of the face to shield the eyes, face, forehead and front of the neck.
Compliant eye protectors are tested once to determine that they meet the requirements of a standard. There is no guarantee that future batches or products of the same type also comply to the standard. Certified products by contrast, undergo initial assessment to compliance, are registered with an independent certifying body (eg SAI Global) and additional batch testing and assessment occurs to ensure the product continues to meet the needs specified in the standard. Buying a certified product guarantees:
Ongoing compliance guaranteed
Batch testing
All components are traceable
Added liability cover

The prescription lenses in EYRES frames are made of Shamir Trivex. Trivex is the safest and most impact resistant prescription lens material available. They guarantee the lower lens thickness currently available for AS/NZS1337.6 Compliance.
EYRES prescription lenses are marked with EYRES logo, the letter “R” to identify Compliance to the AS/NZS1337.6 prescription Standards and also the letter “I” to indicate Medium Impact classification. Low Impact lenses are marked with an “R” only for Low Impact. Outdoor untinted is indicated by “O”.
In many working environments it will be possible to simply provide the appropriate over-safety specs to glasses wearers, but these should not be provided as a long term solution for employees requiring regular usage, as they will not provide suitable comfort levels due to the effect of light refraction through two sets of lenses, and the more obvious physical discomfort of supporting two sets of frames.
EYRES do not recommend the use of Polycarbonate frames and lens for work in chemical environments. EYRES new ANMX Trivex material lens and TR90IMPACT frames are chemically resistant to such chemical as acetone, acid, oil, grease, gasoline and many hydrocarbons.
Regular wearers with a prescription requirement should be provided with glasses of the type they most commonly wear. The dispensing of safety eyewear is not the ideal opportunity for a bifocals wearer to suddenly experiment with progressive, and similarly it would be irresponsible for an employer to only fund the provision of single vision glasses when the employee is a regular wearer of bifocal or progressive. Why shouldn’t I wear single vision readers for work?
Reading is only for close work so if you have to look up and take your glasses off to see in the distance, you won’t be ‘safe’. Therefore we recommend progressive lenses or bifocals.
Yes, the EYRES Low and Medium Impact prescription range may be used for sporting, leisure, recreational or aesthetic purposes as well as in the workplace.
